About Bastille Day
The Alliance Française de Sydney – in partnership with numerous organisations in the Sydney Franco-Australian community – are delighted to invite you to celebrate Bastille Day in style.
Historically, La Fête Nationale (the National Celebration), also commonly known as Le quatorze juillet (the fourteenth of July), commemorates the storming of the Bastille Prison in Paris on the 14 July 1789 a starting-point of the French Revolution and the end of the absolute monarchy. Since then it has developed into a huge milestone in the French cultural calendar, a time not only to commemorate but also to celebrate!
As always, our Bastille Day event represents an opportunity for Sydneysiders to come together and celebrate French and Francophone culture in all its richness and diversity. This year’s theme – Around the World – is looking beyond the borders of France to the beauty and vibrancy of many fellow French-speaking neighbours and destinations.
The Alliance Française de Sydney is grateful for the commitment and support of City of Sydney through their CBD Activation Grant program, aimed at activating spaces with cultural programming.
